We found out almost a year ago that we were moving to San Francisco and now in less than two months we will be there. Very exciting and very stressful all at the same time. Our first order of business to make the move was to get the kids in school. We tossed around multiple ideas...public school, home school and private school. Our kids are in private school now so we really wanted to continue with that. Also, we wanted them to really experience living in CA and being in school where they could make friends and become involved in sports and other activities, we felt, was part of that. We didn't have the first clue as to how we would get them in a private school out there though. But luck (and divine intervention) was on our side. It just so happens that our principle at the kids' current school is very good friends with the principle of the exact private school in SF we really wanted the kids to go to...it was recommended to us by the wife of an attending at UCSF where Lyle will be working and it is located in the area we wanted to be in. So, our principle (Mrs. House) contacted her and in the blink of an eye the kids were enrolled at St. Brendan's Catholic School in the 4th and 1st grades! Biggest hurdle was at the end the easiest!
As for where we will live, well that is still a work in progress. We are going to rent for the two years we are there and the rental market is crazy out there. We are making a trip in June to find a place. We have to pay for a month we won't actually be there but apparently that is just how you have to do it:( We would like to be within walking distance of the hospital (might be the only way we actually get to see Lyle) because we are selling one car so he will need easy access to work....he is thinking about getting a bike too. We will see. Inner Sunset, Diamond Heights, Forest Hill and Noe Valley are neighborhoods we are interested in so if anybody out there has a cheap rental property please let us know!
We would really like to rent our current house but we have had it on the rental market for two months now and haven't had any one willing to wait until July to rent. That makes us kind of nervous so as of this morning we have also listed the house to sell. That makes a nervous too.
That so far is the update on where we stand with the move. We are moving the first week of July and Lyle starts work August 1st and the kids start sometime late August. Peep and I are for the time being going to stay home together. Once we get settled we will most likely try to get her in a mommy's day out kind of thing. His fellowship will be over July 31st 2017. We will be moving back to Little Rock after that. Lyle has signed a contract here with UAMS.
