He did really well and got two good hits. Lyle got him baseball bubble game before the game to put in his pocket. He thought that was really cool. He had a lot of fun so I think we will be running with baseball games for awhile now!

Luke's First T-ball game
Luke started Tball with the Junior Deputy league this year. He has had several practices but had his first game on Thursday. He looked so cute in his uniform that I had to take lots of pics!

The babies arrived!
One day after I posted my 35 weeks post, the babies made their appearance. I will start from the beginning:
Wednesday, March 19th, 2014 was like any other day. I got up, got the kids up and we all got ready for our day.....work and school. I was feeling tired and sore but nothing unusual. After dropping the kids off at school and going to church, I headed into work. The last couple of weeks I had been trying to wrap things up at work, organizing notebooks and my freezer space so that when I came back, I could get started quicker. I even sent some texts that day telling friends and family that I really didn't think the babies were coming any time soon and I would most likely make it to my due date. Little did I know, they would be arriving a few hours later:) I picked up the kids from school and made a lunch date with a friend for the next day. I really thought things were staying put for a few more weeks! The kids and I got in the car around 2:50 and we headed home. I put gas in the car and stopped at the ATM to deposit some money. As I was reaching out the window to put in the checks, I heard this familiar "pop". A sound I heard with both Ella and Luke. I pulled back into the car and said, "No way!" Sure enough my water broke right there at the ATM.....in my car! Ella said, "What's wrong, mom?" I replied, "Well, kids. We are going to the hospital to get your sisters today!" They started cheering and laughing! They were so excited! A million thoughts started running through my head....call Lyle, call the doctor....call my dad! Fortunately, I was able to pull it together enough to finish my deposit and get my debit card back:) I pulled away from the ATM and called Lyle. No answer.....called again, "Lyle, its time. My water broke." "Ok, OK. I'm heading home. Its going to be ok. Are you having contractions?" "No, not yet. Please hurry." Next, I called my dad. He had been calling me about twice a day since I got closer to my due date making sure I was ok. I haven't called him once during that time because I was afraid I would make him panic if he saw my number on his phone. So, when I did call him, he knew I was serious and it was go time. He said, "We are on our way." I called my brother several times because he was going to watch the kids while we went to the hospital but couldn't get a hold of him. Then I called my doctor. I was very adamant on the phone about making sure my doctor was called immediately. I wanted him to be the one to deliver me. On our way home, the kids had a million questions. I just told them to go in the house and put your things away like normal. Uncle Craig was going to come over and watch you guys until Grandma and Papa get here and then they would take you to the hospital to meet your sisters. Luke asked about all the water in the car.....they thought that part was hilarious! They were focused on making sure they didn't forget the bunnies they were giving to their sisters. When we got home, (3:32) I went to the back and changed clothes and grabbed my hospital bag. I threw in a couple more things and grabbed the diaper bag. My contractions quickly intensified and I was having trouble walking around but I couldn't sit still. I tried to remember everything I needed but my mind was racing in disbelief that this was actually happening. I knew it would happen of course but I was still nervous, excited and scared all at once. My brother showed up at the house without me getting a hold of him. My dad had called everyone in the family so Craig knew to come over. He was so helpful making sure the kids were OK. Lyle showed up at the house around 4:15. He threw some stuff in a bag and we said goodbye to the kids. I made sure they knew I was OK and this was all a normal part of having a baby. I didn't want them to be scared. But as Ella always does, she surprised me. I think she knew I was more scared than I let on and she looked at me and said, "Mom, we are OK and you will be too." Tears welled up in my eyes. I kissed both of them and we left in Lyle's truck. Longest drive to the hospital ever!! My contractions were about 3 minutes apart and getting stronger. I was soaked again and traffic was heavy. Lyle was calm as always but when he passed the car in front of us using the median I knew he was a bit panicked. We pulled up to the front of the hospital at 4:45pm. Lyle got me a wheelchair and wheeled me to the 5th floor of labor and delivery. At first the nurses triaged me but quickly realized that wasn't going to work when they saw that I was soaked and ready to have these babies. I was taken to delivery and quickly prepped for surgery. It was around this time that everyone read my chart and figured out this wasn't going to be a normal delivery. Neonatalogy nurses we had previously met started to show up and discuss what was going to happen with the babies. By now, we knew that plan pretty well. They would focus on Baby A making sure she was fine and didn't need to go to NICU since I was delivering them at 35 weeks and 3 days. Baby B would just be made comfortable and they would do what was needed to get her to us quickly. Soon my doctor arrived, Dr. Wendel. I was so relieved and tears flowed when I saw him walk in. He had called our family priest and he came in with in a few minutes. I was so happy they were both there. The whole pregnancy I was afraid one of them wouldn't be able to be there. But they were and Lyle and I both breathed a sigh of relief. Everything from then on was pretty standard. I was prepped and taken back to start the spinal block. I watched them prep the room, count all the surgery tools and get all the ivs and baby beds ready. I was dying for Lyle to get in there. A few minutes later, he came in and the c section started.
The next part of this story is extremely difficult for me to relive and write. But I wanted to write it so our family remembers it in the future. Baby A was delivered first at 6:01pm. She started to scream as soon as she came out. Even though I heard both Ella and Luke cry, I can honestly tell you that was the best sound I have ever heard. I so worried about her through this whole pregnancy. Hearing her cry and hearing the Dr. say she looked perfect was the best news ever. The nurses took her and I waited for what seemed like hours to hear them say, "She's great! She doesn't need to go to NICU!" THANK YOU JESUS!! Annabeth Eve Burdine was perfect at 5 lbs 10 ounces and 20.5 inches long. Lyle quickly brought her over to me. I will never forget seeing her. So amazing.
While I waited to hear about Annabeth, Dr. Wendel was updating me on Baby B. He said, " I have her out." No sound. No cries. Lyle said she was very small. I asked if she was alive. Dr. Wendel said yes and then I heard a very small cry. She was here. The nurses took her and quickly wrapped her up and gave her to Lyle. He brought her to me and I cried. Eve Marie Burdine was born at 6:02pm at 2 lbs 9 ounces and 15.5 inches long.
After the c section, they wheeled me to recovery where I met my family. Lyle brought in the girls and gave them to Luke and Ella. I so clearly remember Luke's face as he met Eve. "I'm your Big Brother Luke." he said twice with the biggest smile on his face ever. They were both carrying their bunnies.
Their smiles were so big! They were so happy! I will never forget how happy they were to meet both of their sisters.
Everyone got to hold the babies...to say their hellos and their goodbyes. Our priest quickly came in and baptized both the girls. We took lots of pictures. One family picture.
Eve passed away about two hours after she was born. Those two hours were the sweetest time for our family. I will write more on Eve some day when I can. We all miss her so much. But I want to make this post a happy one. Annabeth was welcomed with so much love. She was able to stay with us our entire stay in the hospital.
Mims and Pa got to Little Rock late that night and came to the hospital early the next morning eager to see their new granddaughter.
We went home two days later and we are slowly starting to feel normal again. This has been a long journey. So many things have changed for me and for Lyle. Ella and Luke too. We are doing great. Annabeth is doing great! Luke and Ella can not get enough of her! Neither can I:)
